Discover the ideal seasons to experience Fiordland's stunning landscapes, from summer adventures to winter serenity.
Fiordland is stunning year-round, but each season offers a unique experience. Here's our guide to help you decide when to visit this spectacular corner of New Zealand.
Summer (December – February)
Summer brings long days (up to 16 hours of daylight!), warmer temperatures, and ideal conditions for hiking and outdoor adventures. This is peak season, so book accommodation well in advance. The Milford Track and other Great Walks are in full swing.
Autumn (March – May)
Our personal favourite time at Dusky Ridges! The crowds thin out, the autumn colours are spectacular, and the weather is often stable. Perfect for photography and peaceful farm stays.
Winter (June – August)
Fiordland transforms into a winter wonderland. Snow-capped mountains, cosy evenings by the fire, and dramatic waterfalls at their most powerful. Fewer tourists mean more intimate experiences.
Spring (September – November)
Lambing season brings new life to the farm! Waterfalls are spectacular after winter rain, and native birds are particularly active. A wonderful time for nature lovers.
